Top 10 Hip Hop Tracks of 2007: #6 "Sky's the Limit" by Lil Wayne

Any Top 10 list this year would be incomplete without (at least) one track from Lil Wayne’s Da Drought 3. Surpassing last year’s Dedication 2 release with DJ Drama as Wayne’s best release to date. He shows up everyone in the rap game on their own beats on DD3, from Nas to T.I., Jay-Z (twice) to Beyonce (?!). His 5-minute rip over Mike Jones’ “Mr. Jones” beat is the most powerful of the bunch, though. The track features the darker side of the rapper, as shown on his “Dipset” (DD3) and “Money on My Mind” (Tha Carter II). “Sky’s the Limit” reads more like Weezy’s Manifest Destiny than his “Ambitionz as a Rider,” assuring that he’ll stop at no cost to be the best, even describing his snail-mailing his opponents’ heads to their respective mothers. We’re convinced.
