Nas is Like....

I tend to go into these ruts after long and vigorous displays of being in college (see: The Rules of Attraction) when I spend hours reading Wikipedia articles. On my most recent Winge (Wiki + Binge = Winge), I ended up on “NaS (Rapper).” I spent the better part of my night immersing myself in all things Nasir Jones. No homo.

Born in Crown Heights and raised in Queensbridge, Nas’ hip-hop pedigree is pretty evident. From the upstart hustler/poet in Illmatic, to the awesomely indulgent opening scene of Belly, to “Ether,” to jumping ship Jay-Z’s toilet slave, to the upcoming “Nigger,” Nas has never wavered as one of hip hop’s all time premier lyricists. Here’s some stuff I felt summed up his career (thus far) pretty well.

MP3s:

“NY State of Mind”

“The World is Yours”

“Nas is Like”

“Ether”

"Rewind"

“One Mic”

“Made You Look”

“Thief’s Theme”

“Success” (Jay-Z ft. Nas)

RANDOM HOUSE tunes Ive been listening to lately

Much to my chagrin this post is more than solely house, we have a little 80's, disco, new-ish electro and more. With not as many little posts in the last week or so, I decided to just throw a bunch of random tracks that have been catching me ear lately. We have a little Cut Copy off their album In Ghost Colours, a nice Yelle remix that is kinda old but I havent really given it a listen until late, some Gary Numan, Lil Wayne, an old primitive Justice joint which I am a little skeptical about (via hypemachine), a mashup (dont usually post these with the recent mashup craze amongst non-alternative music listeners as well as shitty quality because of this newfound interest), and some more. Be sure to check all of these out as theyre really spanning across genres and you should be bound to find something you enjoy.

Tristesse Joie (Rolf Honey RMX)- Yelle
Hold On- Holy Ghost
Imperial Stress vs John Williams- DJ Beloki
Sure You Will- Justice
Three Little Words (Damage RMX)- Frankmusik
Bezerker- Gary Numan
Mr. Officer (CSK RMX)- Snob Scrilla
Phone Home- Lil Wayne
Keep on Dancing- Gary's Gang

Romeo Erotic

A relatively newer group, Romeo Erotic has been throwing out some serious remixes to classic R&B tracks from the 80's and 90's. Putting a funky disco spin on many of these tracks could lead to only one possible thing...a disco resurgence perhaps? First found their stuff on the hipster trendy blog missingtoof, which was kinda surprising finding this type of music on there. But, if its good, who cares? Add onto their tracks a couple other classic disco tracks ive been listening to lately.

Romeo Erotic
You Are Danger (remix)- Gary Low
Im Freaky (remix)- O'bryan

A Taste of Honey

BMX: The Best Thing Since Vegemite

This Australian quartet has been getting some serious exposure on the blog-o-sphere. I have not stopped listening ever since I got my hands on these tracks. They are so new they do not even have a myspace page but hopefully there is a lot more coming from these guys (and a girl). Perfect summery pop/electro that can been pumped while cruising with the windows down, chillin' on the beach, or having a damp sweaty party. I cannot wait for more. The tracks are below from best to worst.

BMX - Theme to BMX
BMX - War
BMX - Refero Beach

Until Next Time....
