MSTRKRFT, B-B-ROOTS, AND MORE!

In honor of the show im going to see along with Robface and others next friday, Im going to post a boatload of goodies. MSTRKRFT is headlining the show, and they should be. With a new album in the works slated for an early '08 release, im anticipating hearing some new tracks. They already dropped VUVUVU at a show, so who knows what theyll bring to an anxious NYC crowd. Here are a couple remixes and tracks off their album, The Looks.

Paris
Neon Knight
VUVUVU (live)
Dundun dun (remix)

earlier mstrkrft post

The blood beetroots are a supporting dj at this show, but I might be anticipating their set more than mstrkrft. These guys are absolutely insane and have some real bangers thatll make anyone. Here are a couple tracks from deez goys.

Muzzle No. 1 (remix)
FUNK (remix)
Bluto Fucks Popeye
Detroit (ghetto edit)

earlier bbroots

The other DJ's im not all that familiar with. Ive heard some LA riots stuff and its pretty good. If theyre playing with MSTRKRFT and the BBROOTS, they must be doing something right.

Welcome to Purple Haze

Back when the Diplomats rolled with winners (read: not Tony Yayo) there was a rapper named Cam’ron. He was the leader of the Dipset, spitting the illest and sharpest verses on any of the Harlem-based crew’s songs. His 2004-album “Purple Haze” may very well be viewed as the last great non-Jigga New York rap album. Chock-full of club bangers (“Girls”), fiery street anthems (“Shake,” “The Dope Man”) and a pair of modern classics, (“Harlem Streets,” “Down & Out”) the album features stellar production from some dude named "Kanye," Tha Heatmakerz and others.

Sadly, this Cam’ron guy has fallen out of favor with the rest of Dipset, leading to a loss in both commercial and urban credibility for both parties. Once a foe of Jay-Z, Cam’ron is now relegated to “Where are they now??” status. Regardless, the brutally honest portrayl of the hustle, stream of consciousness flow and unabashed description of sexual escapades makes “Purple Haze” as timeless a rap album as anything to come out of post-Biggie New York not called “The Blueprint.”

Diizy

I was scrolling through solidgoldberger yet again, only to stumble upon a gem-a remix of Steely Dan's "Peg" done by an artist known as Diizy. I looked up the myspace of the artist and was surprised to see that the artist was relatively unknown. Here are two solid disco-house tracks from this guy. Be sure to check out this guys myspace as well to hear some of his other tracks.

DJ Shadow is a renowned west coast DJ. His instrumental sample-based hip-hop beats have made him one of the most famous DJ's in the world. His 1996 Entroducing... album is one of the must-have for any electronica collectors. It is entirely sample based, and is the basis for many hip hop instrumental DJs today such as RJD2 and DJ Spooky. Here are a couple essentials off the album, but the whole album should be purchased and is a must have.

RMX TRX

Here are a couple remix tracks that are almost as nice as marissa miller's body. The only remixes that can rage as hard as her body are done by MSTRKRFT really. First up a nifty remix of the classic Joy Division tune, "Love Will Tear Us Apart", that puts a nice electro spin on the track. Following that up we have a remix of the pop classic "Way I Are" by the Crookers. And to top it all off a nice remix of the stones classic "You cant always get what you want" by Soulwax.

Le Knight Club

Le Knight club is a side project of Guy-Man's (half of Daft mutha-fuckin' Punk). He teamed up with Éric Chedeville of Pumpkin records to release a couple vinyls under the illustrious Crydamoure label. Both Crydamoure (Guy-Man) and Roule (Tommy bangalter) revert to more primitive disco house sounds that sound like a lot of the earliest recording of daft punk. If you like this sound, definitely check out solidgoldberger, as they have a ridiculous amount of great disco house and almost all the Roule and Crydamoure releases. The site is really phenominal once you dig into it. Here are a couple tracks from LKC i downloaded off of the site.

More french goodies

I took each artists' new mashups from their spaces. A new remix by Spitzer with Kylie Minogue, a new datA symphony coming straight out of beverly hills cop, and Kavinsky with MIA.

Some french goodies

As long as the French are producing good tunes, they can smoke as many bogues as they want. Furthermore, Parisian-Canadian imports are the new in. Gonzales is a canadian musician transported to France. He has been putting out an array of stuff ranging from MC work to electro to piano stuff. He released a single entitled "Slow down" that features a thumping electro beat with some catchy lyrics that sound like a toned down version of the daft punk voice in "Prime Time of Your Life" and others mixed with a french canadian Phil Collins. Hard to imagine, but oddly effective, these lyrics mesh well with the electro beat to form a real poppy sounding electro song.

Slow Down Remix- Gonzales (ft. Teki Latex)

Also here is a sneak peak at Gonzales doing some work. Add onto that a slightly humorous, more classical version of slow down.

I wanted to add another song as well. A remix of the song "Junior" by Pony Pony. Their regular stuff is ok, nothing special from my view. However, I really liked this remix of it by chateau marmont posted recently on big stereo.

Junior- Pony Pony (chateau marmont remix)
Hey, kids! Do you like creepy pseudo-psychadelic art rock?? Well yeah, Deerhunter isn't exactly the newest band (or the most well-liked), but they did release an under-the-radar EP a few months back and it's pretty excellent.

I only post about it because 4-song EPs aren't easy to find, and this is the rare one that is absolutely worth getting. All four songs are scrumptious and sexy in a way that only an indie rock band fronted by an emotional, capricious homosexual with Marfan's Syndrome can be. As such, I've decided to post the WHOLE thing! OMG, I know!

Supposed new bangalter track (now night facilities)

A new Banghalter track has been circulating on the blogosphere as of late. Simply called "Love" it has a similar sound to a lot of his other solo tracks and stuff he's done on Roule. Although it hasnt been officially announced yet, there has been some confirmations done on other blogs which cite Xavier De Rosnay as a confirmation source that the track is indeed from Bangalter. Regardless this guy kills it as the best House DJ/DJ from my perspective. What hes done with Daft, Stardust, and his individual tracks makes him one of the best. Heres the new track with a couple other classics ive assembled.

GRAMMYS

The grammys usually blow in every way possible. However this years grammys blew except for two things. The Daft Punk performance (which featured kanye for a little bit) and Herbie Hancock winning best album of the year from the grasps of crackwhore Amy Whinehouse. While I havent listened to any of the Hancock's recent stuff, his album Headhunters should win the award for one of the most funkiest collection of songs ive ever heard. Ill tell you right now, this nigga has got some soul. Here are two tracks from the album, chameleon and watermelon man.

Daft Punk not only brought the tower out, but proceeded to open it only to reveal tommy and guy-man playing on fucking lemur interfaces. These things are absolutely badass. Checking a couple sites, they retail for well over 2,000 American Dollars. God Daft Punk is so cool. Skip to about the 2:30 minute mark in this video to see it go down.

MIAMI HORROR

Miami Horror is one of my personal faves as of late. They take their synthy guitar sound and uses it on remixes of other songs. They seem to follow the same template for many of their songs/remixes. They take these catchy vocals and apply their electro sound to them for the ultimate catchiness. Here are a couple tunes from these guys, definitely give a listen, if you like one, you'll like 'em all.

Toxic Avenger

The Toxic Avenger, a horrible movie or another Parisian electro DJ? Well, we're in luck today because the answer is both! The toxic avenger is yet another one of those grungy, electro djs who hides behind a mask. The sound is similar to that of the crookers and bloody beetroots, but this guy is Parisian, not Italian, so he is automatically better. If he smokes cigarettes then he takes the cake by far. Here are a couple trackxxxx from this guy.

DANGER

I found out about yet another french electro banger awhile ago. This guy Danger has some real killer tracks. He got his discobelle post, but they posted the totally wrong song from my perspective. I somehow stumbled into his myspace via breakbot's myspace page. His tracks names are pretty whack and are a random bunch of letters and numbers. Here are a couple of his better songs. Im pretty surprised this guy has not blown up that big yet, because he has the sound of a club banger.

Foss-fore-ess-ent

Phosphorescent is the band/stage name of some guy named Matthew Houck. His most recent album, Pride, is a cornucopia of deLICious alt.country type moaning and what can only be described as Brian Wilson choir vocals backing Houck as he croaks his way through simple but engrossing songs. He sounds a lot like Will Oldham (Bonnie "Prince" Billy, various Drag City stuff) without being derivative, and he's got that same rootsy, backwoods creepiness -- the kind that always reminds me of John Voight's mouth coming THIS close to getting raped in Deliverance. Talk about a cocktease. ANYWAY, the album is amazing and one of the most underrated releases of 2007 by far, in spite of an 8/10 from Pitchfork. "Wolves" is certifiably incredible, and the whole thing simply flows from beginning to end. Love it, please.

Amon Tobin

Amon Tobin, a Brazilian born/Montreal based/UK frequenter DJ, released his 7th album in '07. Ive only recently picked up some of his tracks from the new album and I was pleasantly surprised. He uses a lot of samples and various effects on his music. The best way I could describe his style it is a mix of the sample heavy Avalanches mixed with the darkness of Burial's latest album. Some really good stuff though, Im still getting some of his older stuff now.
