Primal Scream

I never heard of Primal Scream until looking through the Daft Punk wiki and seeing the album, Screamadelica as one of their inspirations. Going by the transitive property of electronic music, if a great artist(s) is inspired by another artist, that other artist must be pretty good, I picked up the album. Needless to say, its a very interesting cd. A couple tracks really caught my ear with the indie sounding chords as well as some nice vocals and catchy basslines.

In honor of Crookers+ Danger show June 21st at Webster hall, here are a ton of tracks by the respective artists. Pretty pumped for this late night show (starts at 11 pm LOL), mainly because of the difference in styles. Danger can get it banging but also has some different stuff, while the crookers just throw out bangers all night.

Joy Division

I could only follow up the Talking Heads post with a monster Joy Division post. The epitome of depressing music, Joy Division started up a lot of post punk shit, blah blah blah. Heres the wiki entry to better summarize the group:

"Joy Division rapidly evolved from their initial punk rock influences, to develop a sound and style that pioneered the post-punk movement of the late 1970s. According to music critic Jon Savage, the band "were not punk but were directly inspired by its energy."^[2] Their self-released 1978 debut EP, An Ideal for Living, caught the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson. Joy Division's debut album, Unknown Pleasures, was released in 1979 on Wilson's independent record label Factory Records, and drew critical acclaim from the British press. Despite the band's growing success, vocalist Ian Curtis was beset with depression and personal difficulties, including a dissolving marriage and his diagnosis with epilepsy. Curtis found it increasingly difficult to perform at live concerts, and often had seizures during performances"

New Order was good but didnt have the edgy, almost grimey sound that Joy Division incorporated. So therefore JD > NO.
